Dear Translators, I have searched the forum for a while but did not success in finding the answer to my question: where did you study to be a translator/interpreter? Currently I am living in Belgium and I am considering studying languages. Is here in the forum anybody who studied in Belgium? If yes, in which institution? Could you recommend? Thank you in advance for your help.

The question was "Where did you study?" | May 3, 2007 |
not "Where can I study to be a translator cheaply?" Besides there are scholarships and loans available at MIIS. I was able to put myself through the program with a modest salary. The tuition at MIIS is not unusual for a top-notch institution in the US, although it would be considered very high in Europe and elsewhere. Might as well research all the possibilities before dismissing some options out of hand.

I studied English and Spanish from Summer 1971 to February 1975 at the FAS (Fachbereich für angewandte Sprachwissenschaften, now: FASK) in Germersheim (Pfalz, Germany): http://www.fask.uni-mainz.de/ That was really a lot of fun ... Best regards,

They used to have Translation Studies (and Interpreting), but now it's called "Intercultural Communication", I think. I really enjoyed it... Best wishes, Carolin

I'd like to study for a recognised English to Finnish translation certificate but I'm unable to go out and study in an institution, and I live in Scotland in the middle of nowhere. Does anyone know about distance learning courses I could use via the Internet?
