Joining ProZ.com was an investment which paid off very quickly. I became a paying member in 2009, and haven't looked back since. ProZ.com has opened for me a completely new market, complementary to my existing one. I've learnt to apply new tools for marketing, business (software and systems) and translation.

ProZ.com is indispensable for two reasons:
1. The BlueBoard - where avoiding one bad payer will cover your subscription
2. The Translators' Directory - where clients go looking for translators.

I have to say that getting jobs (and, more importantly, regular clients) via ProZ.com worked a treat for me ... it's not that big an investment if you want to run a business.
