nested structures in Multiterm don't work

On setting up my entry structure in MultiTerm7, I successfully created nested fields as per the UserGuide instructions. For example: Definition with subordinate field Source. However when it comes to adding content to such fields, I click on the parent field in Edit mode, select the child field and it just disappears instead of displaying the relevant field for me to add content to. Can anyone help? I think I'm doing exactly as the User Guide suggests...?
