The man that sent me the message is Rocco Buttiglione (like the Italian politician).
He has a gmail account, wants to pay by check, he has a private IP number,...

He posted a job here on ProZ on July 5, to which I replied.
But the funny thing is that he had a profile on ProZ, with a comment of one translator who gave him a good quote! When the job was closed, I couldn't find his profile anymore...

He has only given me an address.

I told him that I don't accept checks, so he asked my bank transfer details.

Here is what he wrote (he answered me July 9):

"Thank you for your interest. Sorry, i reply late, am sick. Here is the

And in his next message:
"Hello Mariella,

You can find a very similar scam in the scam alert report sent on June 15, 2012.

My rule of thumb Jul 18, 2012

If there's no space character after interpunction, it's a scam.

Use of a common name is yet another scam tactic Jul 18, 2012

In addition to the other telltale signs mentioned, I've found over the years that scammers sometimes choose common names (or the names of famous persons) in order to make it impossible to track their internet footprint.

In any case, "Rocco's" deception can justifiably be termed a butt-ugly scam of the most egregious sort....

Same thing last November Jul 18, 2012

Hi Marialla,
there was a series of scam-attempts in November/December 2011. Almost the exact same wording was used in the e-mails. The only real difference was the name of the "client".
In the end it all turned out to be the usual old but still common "overpayment by cheque"-fraud.
So I think it might be the same people. They have given it a rest with proz.com for a while and now they are returning.
Thanks for posting!
Usch

Roberto Sacco = Rocco Buttiglione Jul 21, 2012

Hello Mariella,

Rocco Buttiglione, or Roberto Sacco, that's his actual name, did the same thing to me today.

He also had a positive entry on the Blue Board, which I couldn't find anymore later on.

The poor guy must be sick very often...

Here his job posting:
