BECAUSE I WILL KNOW. REMEMBER, SOMEONE WHO KNOWS YOU VERY WELL WANT YOU
DEAD! I WILL EXTEND IT TO YOUR FAMILY, INCASE I NOTICE SOMETHING
FUNNY. DO NOT COME OUT ONCE IT IS 7:30PM UNTIL I MAKE OUT TIME TO SEE YOU
AND GIVE YOU THE TAPE OF MY DISCUSSION WITH THE PERSON WHO WANT YOU DEAD
AFTER YOU HAVE COMPLIED WITH MY DEMANDS, THEN YOU CAN USE IT TO TAKE

I'm glad that it didn't come through our system (thank you for making it clear, privately).
However, I don't find it funny at all. It made you laugh, but it could have frightened others - even people who would usually not fall for any scam could be nightmaring and feel anxious, even if they do not actually believe that it's true.
Thank you for the heads up - at least it might help the next person to receive it not to get stressed as much as they would have.

In the United States, threatening a person's life, be it in written form or verbally is considered a felony. I don't consider it very hilarious, prank or not.

Could it be the in-laws? Someone you've annoyed recently? Or not so recently - maybe some schoolmate whose conker you smashed to pieces in front of the whole class all those years ago, but they've never forgotten? The poison drip-drip-drips down through the years.

And they sign "Fox James". Maybe they didn't see the end of The Jackal.
