Hi,

I have some lists (columns) of file names (of files on my hard drive) that I want to turn into hyperlinks.

Hi,

I have some lists (columns) of file names (of files on my hard drive) that I want to turn into hyperlinks.
E.g. filename1.txt becomes a hyperlink with address file:///C:\foldername\filename1.txt, and filename2.txt becomes a hyperlink with address file:///C:\foldername\filename2.txt, etc.

I know that I can do this, of course, via the Insert menu, but as these are rather long lists, I am looking for a macro to do this.

Does anybody know of a way to do this 'in an orderly manner'?

Thanks in advance,
Peter

Hyperlinks Dec 30, 2009

Hi Peter,

You can use the =HYPERLINK() function or the following macro:

Hyperlink formula Dec 30, 2009

Hi Peter,

In MS Excel you can do it in the following way:

If the filenames are in Column A, in B1 insert the following formula:

= HYPERLINK("file:///C:\foldername\"&A1)

Then fill down column B up to the last line of your list.

Works like a charm! Dec 30, 2009

Wow, Henrik, that is very efficient indeed! And very easy to adapt.
(And yet another advantage: no nagging MS Office security windows asking for confirmation;-)

Thank you!

Thank you too, Hynek. Adding it to my macro collection.
