One hundred seventy two Democrats joined 91 Republicans in favor of the bill, while 63 Democrats and 108 Republicans opposed it.

Representative Zach Wamp of Tennessee, who had voted against the legislation last Monday, explained why he changed his vote.

Republican Devin Nunes of California explained why he would not change his "no" vote. "The American people do not accept the allegation that we have only two alternative before us, passage of this bill or another Great Depression. 1. L’article 214 du Code civil： Si les conventions matrimoniales ne règlent pas la contribution des époux aux charges du mariage, ils y contribuent à proportion de leurs facultés respectives.
2. Madame LAM étant sans revenu, Monsieur LAM doit contribuer intégralement aux charges du ménage.
3. Comme il l’a indiqué dans son mail du 29 mars 2008, les charges du ménage représentent une somme de 6.000 € par mois. Il est donc en mesure de régler la somme 3.100 € par mois pour subvenir au logement, frais de scolarité de sa fille, et frais incompressibles de la vie courante de Madame LAM et de sa fille, comme il s’est engagé à le faire dans son mail du 30 mars 2008.
Monsieur LAM devra également subvenir aux besoins de l’enfant Lee (logement, scolarité), comme il le fait actuellement directement entre ses mains, celui-ci étant majeur et ne vivant plus chez ses parents.
4. Par ailleurs, le Juge aux affaires familiales devra le condamner à rembourser à Madame LAM la somme de 25.000 € qu’elle lui a prêtée aux mois de septembre et de novembre 2006, outre les intérêts au taux légal à compter du 30 novembre 2006.
