Source text - Russian - Ну, так и иди – благожелательно напутствовал меня годи и ткнул пальцем в лоб. И я куда-то полетел…
«Страна мертвых… Она в Файролле повсюду, ведь здесь даже Смерть не последняя инстанция. Смелый и отважный воин, умный и хитрый маг, да и просто удачливый приключенец всегда могут надеяться на то, что их посмертие будет не менее интересно, чем жизнь.
Но для этого надо постараться. Постараться понравиться Смерти»
Лаконичненько так. Но многообещающе. Стало быть – не одиночное явление прогулка на тот свет, еще и в других областях Файролла такие Врата есть.
Вами открыто деяние «Места, которых нет».
Для его получения вам необходимо побывать еще в шести местах Файролла, которых вроде бы как и нет.

А вот и подтверждение тому. Это хорошо. Такие места, конечно, веселыми не назовешь, но я и игрок неформатный – вместо нормальных, приличных, неплохо освещенных и людных локаций в которых можно заработать опыт, и получить разное полезное добро, мне в основном достаются разные закоулки и темные подворотни игрового мира. Здесь особо не обогатишься, но кто бы меня спрашивал о том, хочу я этого или нет?
Странно, этот мир от того не сильно и разнится. Нет никакой туманной дымки, не сильно тут и холодно, никто вон, в близлежащем лесу не завывает дурным голосом. Разве только что тут солнца нет и света маловато. Такое ощущение, что у них тут сумерки.
А вообще здесь, в мире мертвых, все вполне логично. Вон, даже дорога одна, не свернешь никуда.
Я обернулся – а вот обратной дороги нет. Лес стоит сплошной стеной, непроходимый, непролазный, как бы говоря – «Нет приятель, только вперед». Впрочем, я успел заметить отсветы истаивающей в нем арки, видно той самой, через которую я сюда попал.
«Время, которое вы можете провести на этом плане бытия в своем теперешнем воплощении равняется одному часу. После его истечения вы будете принудительно возвращены на исходную точку отправки.
Желаете включить таймер, показывающий остаток времени, отведенный на изучение данной локации?»
Сервис, елки-палки. Пусть будет, почему бы и нет?
- Привет – невесть откуда, чуть ли не из-под земли, появился крепкий горец в традиционной для них одежде, с открытым и приятным лицом – Ты оттуда, с той стороны?
- Оттуда – подтвердил я – А ты местный?
- Уже лет сто как или даже больше – засмеялся горец – Я – Хрон.
Он протянул мне руку и замер, ожидая того, что я назову ему свое имя. И ведь, что примечательно – если бы не предупреждение Сэмади, я бы так и сделал.
А годи не так уж и умен - до Оэса я даже не дошел бы. И все, весь его план летит к коту под хвост. Или… Может, ему надо было не того, чтобы я дошел до Оэса, а того, чтобы я просто исчез из плана истинной реальности Файролла? На время или лучше вообще насовсем?
Нет, надо будет этого служителя культа по возвращении взять за козлиную бородку, да и потрясти как следует. Только тихо и незаметно – гэльты народ суеверный, могут не понять.
- Очень приятно – помахал я конечностью в воздухе – Рад встрече. Слушай, к последнему становищу эта дорога ведет?
- Она – подтвердил гэльт – Так как ты говоришь, тебя зовут?
- Чего меня звать? – я поправил меч – Я сам всегда прихожу куда надо.
Таймер отсчитывал минуты и я, кивком поблагодарив любопытного и хитрого гэльта быстро зашагал по дороге.
- Чего там, в Пограничье, происходит-то? – догнал меня Хрон – Кто у власти сидит?
- Никто, как и раньше – ответил ему я – Демократия в действии. Режут все друг друга помаленьку, но делают вид, что ничего не происходит.
Не хватало еще с покойничками откровенничать. Хотя – кто бы говорил?
- Узнаю, узнаю родное Пограничье! – радостно сообщил мне Хрон – Века идут – а ничего не меняется. Стабильность. А что, брат… Как там тебя?
- По-разному, приятель – хмыкнул я.
Как раз в это время мы повернули за поворот, и я увидел шагах в ста от себя поселение или даже палаточный город. По-иному это и не назовешь – куча разноразмерных и разноцветных шатров, причем большая куча, не меньше сотни. А может и больше. Видно, это оно и есть – Последнее Становище.
- Ладно, пойду я – вздохнул Хрон – Хитрый ты или ученый кем, уж не знаю, что из этого правда.
Злобы в его голосе не было, одна тоска смертная.
- Дураки все уже померли, там, наверху, одни умные остались – кивнул я – Но ты не теряй надежды, может, кто поглупее меня свалится сюда.
Гэльт кивнул и пропал, шагнув за поворот, я же зашагал к шатрам – среди этого бардака еще надо было найти один, искомый, с Великим годи внутри.
- О, смотри-ка ты, живой – почти сразу, у первого же шатра меня остановила троица воинов – Ты откуда взялся?
- С того света – честно ответил я, понимая абсурдность фразы – В гости к дядюшке Оэсу приехал.
- Ну, у тебя и родственнички – покачал головой совсем еще юный гэльт. Это что же он такое героическое сотворил, что сюда попал?
- Какие есть – пожал плечами я – Их не выбирают.
- Что там у вас происходит? – похоже, здесь это вопрос номер один. Хотя – что удивляться, естественный это вопрос в их ситуации – Чего давно новых героев не видать? У вас там войны кончились или отважные воины перевелись?
- Вроде нет – пожал плечами я – И воюем, и смелого народа хватает, да и смертей немало. Не знаю, чего они до вас не доходят. Но спрошу, как вернусь.
- Давай-давай, полюбопытствуй, чего это живущие обычаи старые забывать стали, новых героев сюда не шлют – седоусый гэльт хлопнул меня по плечу – Скучно тут без новостей, а так хоть развлечение будет. Флар, проводи его к Оэсу, а то он заплутает еще тут.
И старшие воины продолжили свой путь, чем удивили меня несказанно - я думал, что они тоже будут пытаться мое имя узнать.
Translation - English “Go, then,” the Godhi said as he gave me a friendly send-off, poking me in the forehead, and I flew somewhere.
“Land of the Dead... It’s everywhere in Fayroll, as even Death is not the end here. A valiant warrior, a cunning mage, or just a lucky adventurer could hope for their life after death to be just as fun as before.
But you’d have to make an effort. Catch Death’s fancy.”
Well, that was succinct but promising. So, traveling to the afterlife wasn’t unique. Other parts of Fayroll had these Gates, too.

To complete it, visit six other locations in Fayroll which aren’t where they seem to be.

And a confirmation. Good. It wasn't the most exciting of places, but I had never really played by the rules. Other stragglers found themselves in well-lit locations with lots of people, XP to earn, and stuff to get. Me? I was the one lurking in the dark corners and shadowed alleys of the game world. Not the best place to get rich, but it’s not like anybody ever asked me what I wanted.
Weird. This world didn’t seem all too different from that other one. No misty haze, no piercing cold, no mad howling at the moon in a nearby forest. Well, except for no sun and very little light. Over here, it was perpetual twilight.
Still, everything was pretty straightforward in the Land of the Dead. Only one road, nowhere to branch off.
If you turned around, you wouldn’t find a road back. The forest was a solid wall. Impregnable, impassable, almost as if saying, “Hey buddy, no way to go but forward.” I did notice flickers of a fading arch—likely the one I had used to travel.
“In your current state, the time you can spend in this dimension is one hour. After it’s up, you will be forcibly transported to the starting point.
Do you want to see the countdown of the time remaining to explore this location?”
That was some top-quality service. Let it be, then. Why the hell not?
“Hey.” A sturdy-built highlander appeared out of nowhere, almost as if springing from underground. He was dressed in traditional highlander clothes and wore a pleasant and honest expression on his face. “So, are you from the other side?”
“Yeah,” I replied. “You local?”
“For the last century, if not more,” he replied, laughing. “Name’s Chron”.
He offered me his hand, expecting me to introduce myself. And you know what? If Samedi hadn’t warned me, that’s exactly what I would have done.
The Ghodi wasn’t that smart. I wouldn’t even have reached Ohess—and that’s it, the whole plan would have gone down the drain. Or... Maybe it’s not that he didn’t want me to reach Ohess, he just needed me to be gone from Fayroll? Just for a time... or for good?
Nope, when this cultist came back, I would take him by the throat and shake the truth out of him. Just gotta do it nice and quiet. The Gaelts were a superstitious sort; they probably wouldn’t be too understanding.
“My pleasure.” I waved my limb at him. “Nice to meet you. Listen, is this the road to the Last Dwelling?”
“That’s the one,” the Gaelt confirmed. “So, what should I call you?”
“No need to call me,” I readjusted my sword. “Wherever I need to, I come myself.”
The timer was ticking, so I nodded to the sly and inquisitive Gaelt and headed forward.
“So how’s it going in the Frontier, then?” Chron asked as caught up to me. “Who’s in power?”
“Nobody, just like before,” I replied. “That’s democracy for you. Everybody’s cutting each others’ throats little by little while pretending everything’s all right.”
I had better things to do than heart-to-heart talks with dead men. Although... who was I to say that?
“Oh, that’s my Frontier, all right!” cheered Chron. “Even centuries later, nothing has changed. Now that’s stability. So, mate... What was your name again?”
“It depends, buddy,” I chuckled.
Right at that moment, we turned around the corner, and I saw a small settlement—or, rather, a tent town. Calling it anything else would be a stretch: a cluster of marquees, varying in size and color and numbering at least a hundred, maybe more. That was it, I guessed. The Last Dwelling.
“Right, then. I have to go,” Chron said with a sigh. “Dunno if you’re a scholar or just smart, whatever.”
He didn’t sound angry. Just world-weary and resigned.
“All the fools are dead already. Only smart folk left up there,” I nodded. “But don’t lose hope. Maybe you’ll meet somebody a bit less clever one day.”
The Gaelt nodded and disappeared, turning around the corner, and I went to the tents. In that chaos, I had to find the one with the Great Ghodi inside.
“How about that, we got a live one!” three warriors stopped me almost immediately, right next to the first tent. “Where did you come from?”
“From the upperworld,” I answered, realizing I sounded absurd. “Came to visit Uncle Ohess.”
“Some relatives you have,” one of the Gaelts said, shaking his head. He was still very young. What heroics had taken him there?
“They are what they are,” I shrugged. “Not like I can pick and choose.”
“What’s going on here?”
From the looks of it, that was the number one question around these parts. Although what did I expect? Wondering about that was quite natural in their situation.
“Been a while since we got any new heroes. Did y’all stop fighting or just ran out of valiant warriors?”
“Don’t think so,” I shrugged. “Lots of wars, lots of brave folks and deaths, too. No idea why they aren’t getting here. I’ll ask when I get back.”
“Yeah, that’s right, look into it. Why’s that the living all forgot about traditions and stopped sending us new heroes.” The gray-mustached Gaelt gave me a smack on the shoulder. “We really need a distraction. We would've died of boredom here if we weren’t dead already. Phlar, take him to Ohess, or he’ll be lost here in a minute.”
The elder warriors went on their way, which was a great surprise. I expected them to try and find out my name as well.
