Discussion

Charlesp (asker) Oct 25, 2020:
Thanks everyone for all the info. Yea, I am referring to the Hungarian pengő - guess I should have mentioned that. (I don't have any further context though - simply that currency).
And I think I've figured it out - with all your help. No real meaning - simply someone trying to be funny and over-expressive, implying the uncountable.
Deane Goltermann Oct 25, 2020:
@Dave Good research, but I'd still like more context to understand what is being referenced. Matt has the direct idea, I'd say 'galaxies' just guessing, but, yeah some context please!
SafeTex Oct 25, 2020:
@ Charlesp and all I wonder if the are talking about the Hungarian Korona

All large and small size bills (50 to 1000000 K): T. W. or W or T. WILLI to show the name of the inventor of the photo guilloche technique used to print the state notes

Guilloché printing

Guilloché (/ɡɪˈloʊʃ/; or guilloche) is a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material via engine turning, which uses a machine of the same name, also called a rose engine lathe. This mechanical technique improved on more time-consuming designs achieved by hand and allowed for greater delicacy, precision, and closeness of line, as well as greater speed.

Milky Ways/Galaxies

Vintergatan is our Milky Way galaxy. Were there loads of stars on the currency or something?

Smithereens swirling around

"300 miljoner Vintergator i en sedel" > 300 million smithereens swirling around in a single bank note - referring perchance to virtually worthless adópengő - tax bills - of post-World War II hyperinflation.

Example sentence:

The adópengő (in English: "tax pengő") was a temporary unit of currency of Hungary between 1 January 1946, when it was introduced to try to stabilise the pengő, and 31 July 1946, when both were replaced by the forint.

The mighty US dollar is smashing African currencies to smithereens.
