I get the idea that they are talking about the fact that the houses in the village are built of stone (probably locally quarried stone), and therefore old and rustic, rather than the idea that the village is surrounded by rocks (which may also be true, of course)

Eu refiro-me a aldeias como o Piódão na Serra do Açor, em que as casas são feitas de xisto, e a Sortelha na Serra da Estrela, com casas feitas de granito. São ambas muito, muito bonitas.
