cutting vs. felling 9,600 hits for ["direct cutting" + trees] vs. 745 for ["direct felling" + trees]. 'Cutting' is actually the term used in forestry.

direct cutting

and associated bark, not from direct cutting practices, but from escaped logs ..... Voluntary mechanisms also occur from groups outside of the forestry ...
