bola de carne (meat bread)

24 bola de carne / "meat bread"

Ingredientes:
500g de farinha de trigo
30g de fermento para pão
4 ovos
2,5dl de azeite
1dl de leite completo
1 colher de café de sal fino
180g de fiambre
1 chouriço de carne (grande)
130g de bacon
1 gema

Preparação:
Desfaça o fermento em pouca água morna. Junte-lhe metade da farinha, misture e vá juntando os ovos, um a um. Acrescente depois o azeite, a restante farinha, o leite e o sal. Bata tudo muito bem. A massa deve ficar mole.

meat ball would be misleading and meat balls would be almôndegas in Pt.

I am told a bola (fem.) is a savoury cake vs. bolo (m.) which is a sweet cake.

As you can see from the recipe above it is a cake- (bread-) type mixture.

You could call it:

meat cake / meat bread / ...

It seems your example has an accent missing.

PE diferentiates between bola = ball and bôla (as in bôla de carne) which is made of left over meat, incl. lard, bacon etc.

see link with picture of a bôla de legumes which shows a bread / cake product.

disagree cristina estanislau : Sorry Hermann but in this case it is carne in the shape of a ball.

in which case I didn't read the question properly
disagree jules_acosta : it doesn't matter what the shape of it is...it's made up of rolled meat - it's meatloaf...of course size and shape may vary from country to country...but for a native to get a picture of what you are trying to say it's easier to use the term meatloaf

We know now that this was not the question. However, there is such a thing as 'bola de carne' (Portugal) which is just a 'meat bread' (see receipe above). You would be disappointed if you asked for this in a restaurant, expecting a meatloaf.

Meat loaf

That's what we would call it.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Norbert Hermann : sorry Sue, this would be a rolo de carne. There are lots of recipes which show bôla is a cake / bread type product - though it appears I got the question wrong justy the same :-(!

Tks, Hermann. I accept your explanation happily!
