A payment 'á konto' is a payment made on account, not against a specific invoice for a specific item or service. As a freelancer, you could demand á konto payment for half the translation cost before starting, knowing that the final payment would be the invoice amount less the advance amount. "Payment on account" is an alternative term, but this is almost always an advance paument, so why obfuscate matters?
