I am a bit confused right now. Is it not the case that the G is the Gesetz zum Schutz von Geschäftsgeheimnissen/Trade Secret Protection Act? If so (?), how can it then be the case that the "G/Act was adopted as Art. 1 of the G/Act"? See context provided.

I mean is that not like a cat biting off her own tail?

Gesetz/Act Of course it's "Gesetz" (Act). What else could it be in the context? This is a standard formulation that I come across frequently when translating German legislation. Alison's reference is spot-on and illustrates the value of always researching the source materials before resorting to somewhere like ProZ.
#Sebastian: Please remove "Ask the client". It looks so unprofessional.
