German term

geologischer Niveauschnittkarten

German to English Science Geology Renewable Energy / Oil & Gas
"Erstellung eines Informationssystems über Salzstrukturen sowie geologischer Niveauschnittkarten."

This is an item on a list of tasks to be performed in a study on renewable energy storage in salt domes. It's possible that this is a typo (this document is rife with them), and that it is really "geologischer Niveauschnittkanten," but either way, it doesn't make much sense to me...
Proposed translations (English)
3 horizontal (geological) cross-sections
Change log

Apr 24, 2013 10:14: Coqueiro changed "Edited KOG entry" from "<a href="/profile/1504615">Barbara L Pavlik's</a> old entry - "geologischer Niveauschnittkarten"" to ""vertical (geological) cross-sections""

Discussion

Barbara L Pavlik (asker) Apr 19, 2013:
What about geologic cross-sectional maps?
Barbara L Pavlik (asker) Apr 19, 2013:
ah, my mind is still processing this... maybe it's in the way I'm mentally splitting the words. Instead of Niveau + Schnittkarten, maybe it's closer to Niveauschnitt + karten... now, we would be talking about some sort of mapping, which makes more sense.
Barbara L Pavlik (asker) Apr 19, 2013:
If it's not a typo, perhaps something like "patterns in the geologic units?"

Hi Barbara, vertical would be a "Schnitt" in German - I'm quite sure "Niveau" and "Karte" means horizontal.

Gerne & viel Erfolg!
Note from asker:
Hi Coqueiro, I think it's actually vertical cross-sections, which they later contrast with horizontal maps, but yes, definitely cross-sections. :)
