German to English Medical Genetics
This is the title of a chapter, followed by a list of genetic terms ( eg mutation, genome, etc.)

I have two ideas, but would like to hear your opinion on them:

1. The genetic alphabet
2. Genetics 101

The second one is probably more US-specific, taken from college course terminology... I wonder if other native speakers ( UK, Australia) also unerstand it that way...

I would appreciate your input on that, and other suggestions for the translation are of course very welcome.

I LIKED QUITE A FEW IDEAS (Steffen's would even merit its own entry!), BUT DECIDED TO GO WITH HEART'S SUGGESTION AS IT WAS CLOSEST TO THE SOURCE TEXT (AND AN AMERICAN IDIOM SINCE THE TARGET AUDIENCE IS U.S.) OTHERWISE, LESLEY'S ANSWER WOULD FIT PERFECTLY, TOO.

Dein 1. Vorschlag klingt für mich eher wie eine Bezeichnung für den Genetischen Code (siehe Lesley Antwort für die korrekte Formulierung).

The ABC's of Genetics

There is a pat phrase in English - the 'ABC's of something' means the basics of something or the fundamentals of something.
I would use 'The ABC's of Genetics' since this is a idiom and a catchy phrase for the title of a chapter.

It's also faithful to the source document so I would use it since it is also an English idiom (I can speak for US English)

"The A-Z of... " is what's normally used in British English with an alphabetical list of terms
