I have trouble with the following sentence from the above paragraph about media manipulation and conformity. Does anyone know what this sentence alludes to and how it can be translated?

Then with the suppression of all comment regarding the supposedly rapid course towards ... (s.u.)

...towards the "thriving landcapes" prophecied by Chancellor Kohl.

I think you need to stay as literal as that in this case, since the text refers to a much-cited promise made by Kohl at the time of the re-unification and doesn't quite work without that context (therefore the explanatory phrase). "Blühend" in this context means flourishing or thriving. Since Kohl meant revival in a more than an agricultural, but also an economic, social & cultural sense, I would stick to "thriving"

My take: "Afterwards with the suppression of all reporting over the supposed fast track route to general affluence."
The article seems to be dealing with let us say "modified" reporting! ´Blühenden Landschaften` - a term from Helmut Kohl if I remember correctly, are supposed to be seen all over the former DDR -but for several reasons it`s not happening as intended, despite all the money that is being invested/spent over there!
