German term

Feste und Bräuche im Jahreslauf

German to English Social Sciences Folklore
I'm curious how I might translate this book title.

Can "im" here be something like "throughout"? "...in the course of the year" is a bit flat in English.

I'm not a professional translator, so please don't get on my case for asking what is probably an obvious question to some. Thanks!
Proposed translations (English)
3 +2 Festivals and customs throughout the year
4 +1 a year of festivals and customs

Andy: I like "a year of festivals and customs" - it's very concise, and would get my vote if you posted it as an answer.
Andy Yeomans (X) Sep 1, 2010:
It does depend a bit on context - it might be: festivals and customs week-by-week, month-by-month, or: a year of festivals and customs or: festivals and customs the whole year round, or .....

Hi. I just need a working translation. This book is cited in a bibliography in an English-language book, and I'm considering adding direct translations of the titles of the German-language books to the appropriate citations in the bibliography. So a direct translation would work in this case. Thanks.

I assume this is the book:

We wouldn't dream of getting on your case if you're not a professional translator, but it would be useful to know what the translation is going to be used for. Do you just need a working translation, or is this the title that will go on the cover?
If it's the latter, a direct translation would not work, not least because you have to specify that it's Germany that you're talking about, so the translation might be very different from the German.

Festivals and customs throughout the year

I suppose you could say "German festivals .......", but then it wouldn't really reflect the German title.
Peer comment(s):

agree phillee : Having seen the reviews on Amazon. Might want to mention that it refers specifically to "German" customs and traditions

agree BrigitteHilgner : I think this works well.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I'm going to go with this one, though the other option was good, too. Thank you!"

a year of festivals and customs

One of a number of possibilities and which seems to have some support...

neutral BrigitteHilgner : This leaves me with the impression that the book deals with a specific year - but I assume the book mentions customs etc. which occur every year/most years.
