German term
zerfallen
German to English
Tech/Engineering
Environment & Ecology
"Dieses Konzept reicht bis zum Produkt selbst, denn XYZ kann recycelt werden und zerfällt bei seiner Verbrennung umweltfreundlich in Wasser und Kohlendioxid."
Sorry if this is an obvious question, but I'm doing an urgent press release (XYZ is a plastic piece of medical equipment) and am still unsure about the correct English term to use for "zerfallen" when referring to incineration ("disintegrated", "broken down"?).
I'd be very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Ian

German term (edited):
zerfallen (Urgent!)
degrades
Can be used as a transitive and intransitive verb... Cf examples below. To incorporate the "unweltfreundlich" bit, I would say "XYZ is recyclable and degrades to water and carbon dioxide with minimal environmental impact when incinerated".

PS for what it\'s worth, when talking about radionuclides \"Zerfall/zerfallen\" = \"decay\".
