Hi

How do you write 'Destri' in Hindi, please? I mean the form of Saraswati (goddess of learning) associated with easy
birth.

शुक्रिया, ललित जी। instructor/instructress में भी मार्गदर्शन का भाव है।
Lalit Sati Feb 15, 2017:

Piyush Ojha Feb 15, 2017:
Verse 10.85.47 -- please see Lalit Sati's answer -- is translated thus by Wendy Doniger (The Rig Veda, Penguin Classics, 1981):

Let all the gods and waters together anoint our two hearts together. Let Matarisvan [sorry, can't do diacritics] tgether with the Creator and together with her who shows the way join the two of us together.

In this translation देष्ट्री = she who shows the way.

Wendy Doniger also adds a footnote: An unknown goddess, perhaps responsible for showing the bride the way to her husband's home and heart. Cf. Atharva Veda 11.4.12.

Monier-Williams defines a cognate word as 'pointer, indicator' and देष्ट्री simply as 'a divine female'.

In my understanding of Wendy Doniger's translation, देष्ट्री is related to दृष्टि. The Hinduism for Dummies link given by acetran has the meaning given by the asker but I'd like to see a more scholarly source for that meaning.

So may the Universal Gods, so may the Waters join our hearts.
May Matarisvan, Dhatar, and Destri together bind us close.

देश्त्री

This is taken from Amrutur V. Srinivasan's book "Hinduism for Dummies."

https://books.google.co.in/books?id=br61gYKt5Q0C&pg=PT166&lp...

It is in all probability written as देश्त्री.

A Google search of this word yields to this link of Skanda Purana, titled after Skanda, a son of Shiva and Parvati.
