This is a text about Swiss painter Rudolf Häsler who prepared for his paintings with lots of sketches and notes.
How do you understand the last part of this sentence? Did da Vinci argue that sketches are of such major importance that they are nearly more important than the final result? Or in what other way can they relativise the final result i.e. the painting executed on the basis of these sketches?
