I learned that "Emplazar" means giving someone a certain timeframe to complete anything, but let me know if my translation is correct:


"Para los efectos previstos en la fracción XXX del artículo XXX de la Ley de Amparo, emplácese a las partes, a fin de que comparezcan ante el Tribunal Colegiado en Materias Penal y Administrativa en turno al que corresponda conocer del juicio de amparo promovido, a defender sus derechos."

"For the purposes provided for in section XXX of article XXX of the Law of Amparo, it is ordered that the parties be given a timeframe with the purpose of having them presented before the Collegiate Court in Criminal and Administrative Matters of the Fifth Circuit in turn, which corresponds to know of the suit for amparo file for defending their rights".

@ Robert I respect your opinion. However, I know you reside in Mexico and therefore, you are familiar with the Mexican Judicial system. I am certainly not familiar with any court in Mexico being called a "Collegiate Court". Are you? Another with HH's contribution: https://www.proz.com/kudoz/spanish-to-english/law-general/10... (His comment: There are two types of appeals courts in Mexico, a "Tribunal Unitario" has one judge and a "Tribunal Colegiado" normally has three; the first is a "Unitary" (Single Judge) Court, and the second is an "Associate" Court. They can also be civil or criminal).

Hi Taña, I don't agree that "collegiate" is necessarily incorrect here (though perhaps "collegial" is slightly less ambiguous), plus it has the advantage of being recognizable as a direct translation.

@ Jorge Just a note about the term you've chosen, i.e. "Collegiate Court", which in my opinion is incorrect. See references below which refer to an "Associate Court". Another issue is the term "en turno" (in turn) which is incorrect! As this question relates to "tribunal colegiado....", you probably should open another question for "en turno". You really need to have someone recheck your translation "... which corresponds to know of the suit for amparo file for defending their rights", does not make too much sense!

to appear before the Criminal and Administrative Court [Tribunal Colegiado en Materias Penal y Administrativa] to which this appeal matter is eventually allocated in order to assert their rights.

I don't know what a reader would make of "collegiate court", I tend to translate and leave in square brackets the original for reference purposes. Tribunal colegiado significa que hay más de un juez que conoce del asunto.
