@Barbara
Prosoparese may not be obscure in German, but it is in Englsh (just do a search for "prosoparesis".

Barbara Schmidt, M.A. (X) Sep 2, 2019:
The source terminology is not at all obscure - it is perfectly clear to medical professionals. This is exactly what it is for, so people understand each other. I would be hesitant to translate this other than literally, as any such attempts at explaining may backfire.
Remember, this is about translating, not setting up a medical glossary for lay people.

prosoparesis / prosopagnosis

Although "Prosoparese" and "Prosoplegie" are used for facial palsy in rare cases, I suspect an error here. Parieto-occipital location of the lesion fits with Prosopagnosie ("face blindness") better than with facial palsy, and Prosoparese isreally uncommon.

I would recommend to use either 'prosoparesis' or 'prosopagnosis' and add an explanatory note in either case.

agree Marga Shaw : I agree with "prosoparesis"; and "prosopagnosis" is also known as "posopagnosia". .

O ja, das scheint sogar noch viel häufiger verwendet zu werden! Danke Marga :-)

Danke Barbara :-)
neutral liz askew : hmm, there are hardly any UK hits for this term. Isn't it facial paralysis/palsy?

Hardly any German hits for Prosoparese, either. That's why I suspect an error here, and that's why I would either offer "prosopagosia" with a translator's note, or the literal translation (= the unusual word 'prosoparesis') and add "[sic!]", for example.
