French term

photos de type emballage

French to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
This is from a funding agreement between a Canadian broadcaster and a Canadian film production company.
It is taken from the section of the agreement that specifies the broadcaster's licensing and other rights.

Here is the full entry:

1) Materiel photographique:

Le materiel photographique fourni doit etre representatif du contenu de chacune des emissions
Dans le cas des emissions dramatiques, les photos fournies devront etre de type «plateau» et de type «emballage».

I take it that photos de type plateau are photos taken on the set, but have no idea what photos de type emballage refers to.

Suggestions anyone?

Discussion

SMcG (X) Jul 20, 2010:
Yes production stills v publicity shots is correct. Production stills are taken by a photographer present on the set when the production is being filmed, who shoots what is happening on set and often off set. Publicity shots are used for "packaging" the show.
Tony M Jul 19, 2010:
production stills vs publicity shots I think the distinction that is being made is between shots taken from the actual production, as against 'publicity' shots (often of the actors, taken in costume, for example, but off set). Suitable for use on packaging material, of course...

sounds like an industry-specific term I can only guess - special pic format used on the wrapper of the DVD case - like those we were used to see on posters inside a cinema lobby - the protagonist busts in 3/4 front angle

wrap or packaging photos

Declined
Depends on how literally you interpret it, but here are my two educated guesses:
wrap: as in final shots of the cast when a series or film is finished.
or
packaging: photos used for packaging and merchandising of the film/series/production
