En este texto se usa "site" en lo que yo entiendo como dos significados diferentes. No estoy segura de cómo traducirlo al español. Aquí hay algunos ejemplos:

Creo que, como dices, utiliza la palabra en dos sentidos diferentes:
Se podría utilizar "centro" cuando se habla de los sitios en los que se lleva a cabo el estudio.
Y utilizaríamos "ubicación" cuando habla del lugar donde se encuentran las arterias...
