Programme de muséographie de la Maison du Bourg
Le programme de muséographie de la Maison du Bourg est le fruit d’une réflexion menée par un comité scientifique constitué de membres de l’Association Histoire et Patrimoine, de guides du patrimoine et d’élus. Depuis quelques décennies, Morzine Avoriaz affirme une image touristique axée vers la montagne et le sport de pleine nature. Pourtant, Morzine Avoriaz ne se résume pas seulement à la pratique des sports d’hiver car son histoire et son patrimoine sont d’une grande richesse. La Commune de Morzine souhaite donc engager un travail de long terme sur la rénovation et la mise en valeur de ce patrimoine bâti et culturel. L’orgue de l’Église Sainte Marie- Madeleine a été rénové. Cet instrument, classé au titre des monuments historiques est d’une facture unique en France.
Cette année s’achèvent également les travaux de rénovation de l’ancien cimetière. Un aménagement paysager a donc permis de créer un espace de recueillement, de redéfinir les allées de circulation en valorisant les matériaux locaux (les ardoises) et en créant des espaces alternant plantations et espaces verts. Un jardin et lieu de promenade qui crée un lien de circulation piéton dans le bourg historique.
Pour ce plan de valorisation, la Commune s’appuie également sur les acteurs associatifs locaux, notamment l’Association Histoire et Patrimoine, qui mène un travail de collecte et de transmission de l’histoire de Morzine et de ses habitants depuis 2 décennies. Récemment une seconde association a vu le jour autour du projet de reconstitution d’une scierie à eau traditionnelle : « la Battante Morzinoise ». Installée dans le Parc des Dérèches, cet outil pédagogique sera pleinement intégré au projet de la Maison du Bourg à travers un parcours piéton.
La scierie et la maison du Bourg, ont été reconstruites pour recréer l’environnement de la vie et des bâtiments de Morzine autrefois. Enfin la Coopérative « la Fraternelle » lance un grand chantier de rénovation du bâtiment historique du premier magasin général coopératif de la Commune qui abritera des salles publiques de réunion et d’activités. Ce bâtiment situé à l’extrémité du village historique sera relié à la Maison du Bourg par la promenade de l’ancien cimetière. Ce futur musée est aussi un outil de diversification touristique 4 saisons.
L’association histoire et patrimoine
L’association travaille depuis plus de dix ans à la création d’u lieu où touristes, locaux et morzinois pourraient apprendre à mieux connaître l’histoire de ce village de montagne devenu station de ski et destination touristique internationale. L’association regorge d’anciennes photos, de documents, d’articles de journaux, de vêtements traditionnels. Son équipe de bénévoles ne cesse de récolter des informations sur l’histoire de la communauté Morzinoise et de la Vallée d’Aulps dans le but de l’exposer prochainement à la Maison du Bourg.

The Maison du Bourg museums project
The museums’ program of the Maison du Bourg is the fruit of labours led by a scientific committee consisting of members of the Association of History and Heritage, heritage guides and elected officials. Over the last few decades Morzine-Avoriaz has developed a tourist image revolving around the mountains and outdoor pursuits. However, there is more to Morzine-Avoriaz than just winter sports as the area is steeped in a vastly rich history and heritage. So the Commune of Morzine decided to undertake long term work on the rehabilitation and promotion of the area’s architectural and cultural heritage. The organ in the church of Sainte Marie-Madeleine has been restored. This instrument, listed as a historic monument, is one of its kind in France.
This year will also herald the completion of the renovation of the old cemetery. The new landscaping will allow the creation of a meditative garden space that offers the visitor the opportunity to pause and reflect, will redefine the pathways promoting the local materials used, in particular slate, and alternating planted and open green spaces. This will be a garden walkway that will create a link with pedestrian footpaths in the historic quarter.
This project of enhancement is supported voluntarily by local associations such as the Association of History and Heritage which has been collecting and communicating the history of Morzine and its inhabitants for the last 20 years. Recently a second association came into being to breathe life into a project aimed at reconstructing a working traditional sawmill: “La Battante Morzinoise”. Located in the Dérêches Park, this educational tool will be fully integrated into the Maison du Bourg project via a pedestrian pathway.
The saw mill and the Maison du Bourg have been reconstructed in order to bring to life the environment and architecture of the Morzine of yesteryear. Finally, the “La Fraternelle” Cooperative has launched a large renovation project which will restore the historic building that once housed the first ever general cooperative store in the Commune and which will eventually provide public spaces and meeting rooms. This building, situated on the edge of the historic village, will be linked to the Maison du Bourg via the pathways through the old cemetery. The museum, once finished, will offer a year round tourist attraction.
The History and Heritage Association
The association has been working for over ten years to create a space where tourists and locals alike could gain a better understanding of the history of this mountain village turned ski resort and international tourist destination. The association is brimming with old photos, documents, newspaper articles and traditional clothing. Its team of volunteers is tireless in its efforts to gather information on the history of the community of Morzine and the Aulps Valley and hopes soon to be able to exhibit the fruits of its labours in the Maison du Bourg. Il est l'un des designers français qui font rêver les amateurs de foot. Entretien avec Vianney de Montgolfier, créateur des Tiempo Legend 6.
Comment es-tu devenu designer pour Nike ?
Depuis tout petit, j’ai toujours aimé dessiner et j'ai toujours voulu en faire mon métier. J'ai eu la chance d’intégrer Creapole-ESDI, une école de design à Paris, qui m'a permis d’évoluer et de faire beaucoup de stages en entreprise. J'ai été mis en contact avec des recruteurs de Nike qui recherchaient un jeune designer. Après plusieurs entretiens et un peu de patience (pas moins de six mois d’attente pour obtenir mon visa de travail), j’étais en route pour l’Oregon et mon premier travail, chez Nike.
Depuis combien de temps dessines-tu des crampons ?
Cela fait maintenant trois ans que je travaille chez Nike en tant que footwear designer au département “ Global Football”. Cela fait donc autant de temps que je gribouille des chaussures de foot et j'adore ça.

Le foot, c’est une passion pour toi ?
Oui évidemment, j’ai toujours (mal) joué au foot. Je n'ai pas vraiment l’âme ardente du supporter, mais je garde toujours un œil sur les résultats de Metz, la ville de mon enfance. Sinon, je joue toujours avec le Real Madrid à FIFA, en attendant que les grenats gagnent la C1.
Ça a quelle importance à tes yeux les crampons dans le jeu d’un footballeur ? Un joueur comme Cristiano Ronaldo serait moins bon sans crampons de pointe ?
Je pense que CR7 serait bon même pieds nus ! En fait, l’importance de la chaussure est de permettre à l’athlète de jouer à son plein potentiel à tout moment et sans se soucier des conditions qui l’entourent. Elles lui donnent ce petit plus au bon moment qui lui permettra de se surpasser.

Comment travaille-t-on pour obtenir des crampons comme les Tiempo Legend 6 ? Ça doit être compliqué à gérer de bosser sur un modèle classique en y ajoutant les technologiques actuelles…
C’est d’abord un vrai travail d’équipe. Entre marketing, développement, engineering, testing, design et tant d’autres, il y a énormément de personnes partout dans le monde qui sont impliquées dans le développement de la chaussure. Et notre direction dès le départ, c'est que la Tiempo n’est justement pas une chaussure classique ! Peut-être que le fait d’utiliser du cuir, comme dans le passé, lui donne un look un peu rétro mais ce n’est pas nécessairement ce que les jeunes joueurs recherchent aujourd’hui. Ce que l’on a le plus entendu de leur part, c'est avant tout l’importance du confort et du toucher de balle.

À partir de ce constat, le cuir est utilisé non plus pour son esthétique, mais pour ses qualités techniques. De nouvelles méthodes de fabrication nous permettent alors d’améliorer le matériau, le rendre plus fin, plus souple, plus solide ou plus étanche. Les joueurs "Tiempo" sont très pointilleux en ce qui concerne leurs chaussures, ils veulent ce qu’il y a de mieux. Ce qui a été difficile n’est pas tant de les satisfaire en utilisant de nouvelles technologies, mais surtout de les surprendre.
Concernant les Tiempo Legend 6, ça doit être une grande fierté de voir des superstars du foot porter le modèle que tu as dessiné...
Bien sûr, avoir l’opportunité de contribuer à un tel projet est un immense plaisir. Mais pour moi le choc s’est produit lorsque nous jouions à Fifa avec mes potes et avons découvert la chaussure dans le jeu pour la première fois. Ça c’était un très beau moment..
Question bête, mais quelles sont les vraies différences entre les crampons des champions de 1998 et ceux d’aujourd’hui ?
Je pense que ce sont d’abord les joueurs eux-mêmes. Leurs préparations et capacités physiques font qu'ils sont plus rapides, plus forts et athlétiques qu’il y a 20 ans. Leurs équipements, et donc leurs chaussures, doivent les aider à être toujours plus performants.
Par rapport à 1998, les chaussures de foot sont plus légères, plus souples et plus proches du pied, car c’est ce dont les joueurs ont besoin pour évoluer au plus haut niveau aujourd’hui. Notre objectif est d’imaginer ce dont ils auront besoin pour être performants au plus haut niveau dans vingt ans.
La plus belle paire de crampons de l’histoire à tes yeux ?
C’est peut-être idiot, mais a chaque nouvelle page blanche j’espère toujours que c’est celle que je m’apprête à dessiner …

How did you become a designer for Nike?
Ever since I was little I always loved drawing and I always wanted to do it for a living. I was lucky enough to be accepted by Creapole-ESDI, a design school in Paris, which allowed me to develop and to do lots of work placements with companies. I was put in touch with recruiters from Nike who were looking for a young designer. After several interviews and a bit of patience (6 months wait no less to get my work visa) I was on my way to Oregon to my first job, with Nike.
How long have you been designing football boots?
It’s now 3 years that I’ve been working for Nike as a footwear designer in the “Global Football” department. So I’ve been scribbling football boots the same amount of time and I love it.

Is football a passion of yours?
Yes, of course, I've always played football - badly. I don’t really have the passionate soul of a supporter but I always keep an eye on Metz’s results, that’s the town where I grew up. Otherwise I’m always playing Real Madrid on FIFA, whilst waiting for “’les grenats” to win the UEFA Champions League
To your mind how important are football boots to the game of the footballer? Would a player like Cristiano Ronaldo play less well without a top pair of football boots?
I think CR7 would be good even barefoot! Actually though, the importance of the boot is to allow the athlete to play to their full potential at all times without a worry for the surrounding conditions. They give the athlete that little bit extra at the right moment which allows them to excel themselves.

How do you work to create boots such as the Tiempo Legend 6? It must be complicated to work on a classic model by updating with current technologies...
It’s first and foremost a real team effort. Between marketing, development, engineering, testing, design and so many others, there’s an enormous number of people involved on a global level in the development of the boot. And our perspective from the outset is precisely that it is not a classic boot! Maybe the fact that we used leather as we did in the past gives it a bit of a retro look but that’s not necessarily what young players are looking for these days. What we hear most from them is that above all it is comfort and contact with the ball that are the most important.

Once we realized that, we used leather not for its aesthetic but for its technical qualities. New manufacturing methods allow us to improve the material, make it finer, suppler, more solid or more waterproof. “Tiempo” players are very exacting as far as their boots are concerned, they want only the best. What has been difficult is not so much satisfying our fans by using new technologies but being able to surprise them.
As for the Tiempo Legend 6, it must be a source of great pride to see football superstars wearing the model that you’ve designed...
Of course, it’s an immense pleasure to have the opportunity to contribute to such a project. But for me the real shock was when I was playing Fifa with my buddies and we saw the boot in the game for the first time. That was a very cool moment.
Stupid question, but what are the actual differences between the boots worn by the champions of 1998 and those today?
I think first of all it’s the players themselves. Their training and physical capabilities mean they are faster, stronger and more athletic than 20 years ago. Their equipment, and therefore their boots, must help them perform ever better.
In comparison to 1998, the football boots are lighter, suppler and closer to the foot, because that is what players need in order to evolve to the highest level these days. Our objective is to imagine what they will need in order to perform to the highest level in 20 years.
The most beautiful pair of football boots in all history in your opinion?
It probably sounds stupid but every time I’m faced with a new blank white page I hope it’s going to be the one I’m about to design...

Since I could first pick up a book, I've been an insatiable reader and a lover of language and languages. My talent for translation earned me the offer of a post-graduate teaching post after completing my honours degree in French & German. I went on to study a postgraduate Master of Science in International Marketing with Languages, and after a career in international marketing in Glasgow and London, I moved to the French Alps where I have run my own businesses for 15 years, first a ski chalet, then setting up my own business as a property consultant and later also running Morzine's first dedicated co-working space.
I became a full-time Translator & Interpreter in 2017 after 13 years' work as a Property Consultant specialising in sales mediation between English and French-speaking clients. This involved a great deal of translation and interpreting as well as in-depth knowledge of the industry, so the transition to full-time Translator & Interpreter felt a natural one. It is great to have the opportunity to unite all my expertise and bring it to bear to help clients in many different situations - from marketing communications to property contracts to meetings with various professionals.
