See, this reveals how OmegaT's text processing works. Although the text following the fullstop is a tag, OmegaT does not treat it in any special kind of way that is different from any other piece of text that starts with "<". This is a bug that is easily fixed in a future version of OmegaT, so I suggest you mention this on the Sourceforge mailing list. It should be relatively simple to add a rule that looks for ESP + tag + whitespace.
