Source text - English The tour commences at the little seaside town of Mahabalipuram, which is famous for its rock-hewn temples, sculptures and the world’s largest stone bas-relief. The tour proceeds to Pondicherry, a former French colony and a venue offering a unique fusion of Indian and French cultures. Thirty-two kilometres of charming coastline make it a much sought-after hub, attracting many tourists. Dozens of temples are scattered around the town, which is also a good base from which to visit the superb Chola temples that are located nearby or to head eastwards for the coastal towns of the Cavery Delta.
The following morning, drive to the railway station to catch the train to Ooty. A smart little hill train chugs up to Ooty on a daily basis, passing plantations, tea gardens, lush forests and pretty little stations on its four-hour ascent. Check in to the hotel for 2 nights; afternoon visit to Darasuram, a 12th-century temple dedicated to Lord Siva. The rest of the day is unscheduled.
