Dear Colleagues,
My client asks me to carry out the final check of the document and I don't know how much to charge him. The document to be proofread is in PDF and I just have to correct typos or spelling mistakes if any, not the style. I've already done the proofreading of this document (I mean I corrected the translation) and now I just have to look it through once again.

As far as I understand, they ask you to check the document after conversion to PDF, and not to proofread it.
For such jobs I usually charge per hour. Sometimes I even do this for free - in case they send me my own translation after doing some DTP. It is often enough to take a look at the document to ensure that everything is OK with it.

The document is about 20 000 words, so, of course, I wouldn't like to do it completely for free.
I forgot to say that I usually charge per word for proofreading.

If it is a document that I translated/proofread and they send it back just for the final cosmetic proofing, then I usually do it for free.
For a larger document (where the client and I anticipate this step), I add a certain amount to the bill as a seperate charge. I make sure that it is a limited amount because I feel that this process is also part of my job, the job the client is already paying me for. as long as I researhed this, the common price of proofreading is a third of the price for translating. If you translate for 0.06 Euro per word, your proofreading price would be 0.02 Euro per word.
