Arabic to English - what should I charge?

Dear friends,

I got a small job to translate few pages from Arabic to English. I live in Holland. The person left it to me to decide on ‘reasonable price’. Any one knows what should be the reasonable price?

Dear Selwa,
it depends...are you working directly with the client or with an agency?
If you're working with an agency(at least, here in Portugal) the rates would be between 0.03€ and 0.05€. However, if you're working directly with the client it can get to 0.08€.

Thank you Patricia for your reply. The job is for an agency which does not know the rate either. But please let me know whether the rate you mentioned is for a character or word?

You state that you're over there but it may depend on where the agency/client you are working for is.

Also, Arabic>English can demand pretty high fees as a combination.

It really depends how much the job is worth to you personally, how experienced you are in that particular area, and a number of other things (source/target wor... See more

the suggested fee seems extremely low... Mar 25, 2005

A colleague of mine, who works for IT>AR in Italy, would never work for less than 0,15 Euro per word. Please do consider than in Italy fees are much lower than in the Nederlands!

I would ask maybe o,18 Euro per English word... Consider also than, in the Nederlands, AR>EN are cross languages

Thanks a lot to all of you. It is my first time to do such work. I used to translate from A/E and vice versa, but that was part of my research.

The number of words ends up to be around 1250, so I may ask for 200 Euro. That might be a fair deal.
