Hello dear fellow translators,
I would appreciate if you can help me by advising me about how much I should put a minimum rate of translation for English, French, and Arabic. I am based in Paris.
Thank you for your help

Between them, you should be able to arrive at a sensible figure per hour, and hence per word by timing yourself translating. A rate which will allow you to earn the income you feel entitled to with your level of education, experience and skills (which we'd love to know more about on your profile). It should also be one that will attract clients, of course, but bear in mind that there are very many "agencies" (many of whom should really be called brokers) out there who won't offer you anything like a living wage. All any of us can do is ignore them. I don't think they'll ever go away, but we don't have to serve them. Save yourself for proper agencies who ask for your rates and accept that a well-crafted translation takes both time and skill, both of which must be paid for. ▲ Collapse | | | Parrot स्पेन Local time: 17:28 स्पेनी से अंग्रेजी + ... There's another mínimum you should set - the absolute mínimum you'd charge for a short job of, say, 2 sentences that, word-wise, wouldn't even compensate for time spent invoicing. Think about it. | |

I have two 'official' minimum rates:
1) minimum for going to the trouble of issuing an invoice, chasing the client if it isn't paid on time, submitting the invoice to my accountant, etc., on top of doing the work = a full hour of my time, i.e. EUR 30.
2) minimum for adding a line on a monthly invoice for a regular client, and the small amount of record-keeping and email exchange that goes with the job = 15 minutes of my time i.e. EUR 7.50.
Then I have two 'unofficial' ones that depend on how I feel and how things are going with the client, where I may offer to reduce the invoice minimum to half an hour, and I may do a few words for free, thereby dispensing with most of the admin. | | | Samuel Murray नीदरलैंड Local time: 17:28 सदस्य (2006) अंग्रेजी से अफ्रीकान + ... In your profile page on ProZ.com there is something called "minimum rate", which is not shown to anyone unless you choose to. That "minimum rate" is used in filtering only, so if you are not someone who gets offended by an agency offering a very low rate, then I suggest you make that "minimum rate" quite low and make it non-public.
Some translators also charge a "minimum fee", i.e. if a job is large, they charge per word, but if a job is very small, then they charge a certain minimum fee, which is often roughly identical to 1 hour's fee. Some translators (like Sheila) have two minimum fees, namely a minimum fee per task (often used if you create one invoice for several tasks) and a minimum fee per invoice. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Minimum rate: help needed Trados Business Manager Lite | Create customer quotes and invoices from within Trados Studio
