Hi! Maybe this is a simple question, but I need help anyway.

In this example, what are the 500 repetitions and how do I charge them?

Repetitions are sentences that you translate a first time in a document and that are then repeated in the same document. You will be paid fully for the first occurence and then, according to the arrangements you make with the agency, you will paid at a % of your normal rate for the repetitions.

This is the analysis made by a Translation Memory software, probably Trados.
Repetitions are sentences (or rather: segments) that are exactly the same as sentences earlier in the document (or in the translation memory). A percentage means the segment is more or less the same as an earlier one, but not exactly.
How to charge for partial and full matches is up to you. Generally speaking, there are two strategies:

2) Matches cost me less time, so I give a discount for these. Many agencies actually _demand_ that you give them such a discount, and might have exact numbers they apply to all their translators.
Do not accept zero payment for full matches. You do have to check these, as even exactly same sentences might have different meanings in different contexts. Also, often the TM that the agency provides will have bad translations in them, which you will want to correct. ▲ Collapse

In my example there are 500 + 800 repetitions. What I don't understand is what the 500 words stand for. Are they also 100% matches?

Repetitions are internal to the document - the first instance of a repeated segment will be counted but subsequent instances won't be.
100% matches are matches with a TM against which the analysis is performed.
You don't state whether you have a CAT tool and whether you have a translation memory (TM) provided either by you or the agency for this job.

OK, I got it.
So there is normaly one rate for repetitions (internal to the document), and one or more for matches (with the TM). I just didn't get the repetition part!
Good points, Jan. As for now I will just have to accept the rules of the agency.
The agency sent me the analysis done in Trados, and it was a Trados project.
