This morning someone asked for help translating the English term "reflective inductance" into German. I entered it in Google using quotation marks and immediately found the English to German KudoZ question in Hungarian, Albanian, Russian, French, Portuguese, Turkish, Romanian, Dutch, Tam.? and Italian. It appears that disregarding the KudoZ question, the term actually occurs three times. Is that really necessary? Can something be done?

Hi Kim,
As you surely know, the occurrence of all these ProZ.com URLs is due to the localised versions of the site. To exclude these "internal" hits/repeats, simply type in "-site:.proz.com" in the Google search field, in addition to the actual term.

I agree with you Kim. It is not only unnecessary but highly annoying and counterproductive because it hampers your search. How can you find the information you are looking for amidst so much clutter?
The same is true for translators' names and I have commented on this before in forums. If you search for your own name in Google (have you tried that?), you will get hundreds of references to every Kudoz question you ever asked or answered, your forum postings etc. etc. in every languag... Just typing -proz in the search field is actually sufficient.

Editing to say: I can't see why it appears with the dotcom addition in my message, I actually wrote only the hyphen (-) followed by the four letters P R O Z (and see it like that in this editing field)

Not sure if that's possible, and also I'm not sure if that's the responsibility of Google or Proz. But sometimes when you do a certain search, you get one result from a certain website, then right under it you see, "More results from xyz.org »". If you click on that, you get all other search results from that page.
I always wonder why that doesn't happen with Proz and all its multilingual versions. Sometimes I don't necessarily want to filter Proz.com from the search results, but I also ... As several people have openly admitted in the past, some people make a point of answering Kudoz questions and/or posting on as many forums as often as possible for this very reason.
I agree with you, Kim and others who find it annoying to look for terms and have to wade through pages of references to Proz in all possible languages, often all referring to the same question.
Too much of a good thing, perhaps?

As I had written earlier in this thread, just exclude ProZ.com from your search to avoid the "clutter", as some of you put it.

Eliminating "all" Kudoz references would be a pity because sometimes they are very helpful, not to forget the fact that they are often unfindable via glossary searches and only appear by chance in a www search.
The problem is that you get pages and pages of references to the same Kudoz question, in all languages. Sometimes it's not immediately obvious it is the same question, so a lot of time is lost looking.
That's the complaint.

because of somebody else's incontinence?! Oh well ... I would not mind, if ProZ itself could somehow contain/channel it.
The way it is now, these hits just swamp the Google spectrum, making all those "prop up your profile" drives & similar actions look so futile. Of course it's possible to lock the site out, but the problem is not us, it's the other people out there, who may be driving past the ProZ exit just because of this unnecessary extra traffic.
