It's a little unfortunate that such an interesting topic of discussion has turned into more argumentative than productive. When commenting here within Proz forums, kindly please refrain from speculating the opinions of others (whether it may be colleagues posting within the same forum or references from your past work). I am locking this thread not because we aren't "old enough" to endure heated discussions, but more so because the comments herein have gone so off-topic it honestly doesn't serve the purpose of this particular thread anymore.
As you may know, we have off-topic discussions within the Chinese forum. Kindly please consider taking your conversations there instead should you wish to continue discussions about politics in general. And a quick disclaimer: talking about politics is allowed here - after all, it just isn't possible to pretend that we can separate work entirely from global issues. All we ask is common courtesy and for everyone to not speculate on others' opinions, leanings and beliefs when you are leaving a comment.
Have a fantastic week!
