....anyone remember that? I'd say Google has pretty successfully monopolised the market. The results so far seem to attest to that.

Because it's there and it works for me. I don't like Chrome, though they say it's better for some things.

because they track neither my searches nor my IP address or any other information - something which Google is well known for.
But specifically for Russian terms or expressions I also use national search engine: yandex.ru

I use DuckDuckGo, which returns results from both Google and Bing but doesn't track me and doesn't bubble me. In fact, I've stopped using all of Google's services, including Gmail. I've migrated to Hotmail and I find it much better, both when accessing it through Outlook and when accessing it through my Nokia phone.

I try to use Ecosia (who donate for the protection of rain forests), but unfortunately it gives much less results than Google, so I usually end up searching with Google.

I also use mostly Ecosia. only when I do not find anythinge useful - which doesn't happen too often - I switch to Google. Perhaps I should better try DuckDuckGo now - never heard of it before. Thanks Epameinondas!

Google with Dogpile and Kvasir. Google is increasingly "infected" sponsored results and bias in their search algorythm, so I generally search twice for most items.

I mostly use Copernic, which in turn activates a series of search engines according to the type of search. You can search the whole Internet or the Internet in one language, which you will have chosen upon installing the program (I chose my target language). See more I mostly use Copernic, which in turn activates a series of search engines according to the type of search. You can search the whole Internet or the Internet in one language, which you will have chosen upon installing the program (I chose my target language). It used to be possible to restrict the search to one country also (I had chosen the country where I was based). This is where to download it for free: www.copernic.com. On the right hand side of the home screen, under "Popular pages", click on "Agent Personal Download" (or access it directly by clicking on this link: "http://www.copernic.com/en/products/agent/download.html"). It is a "meta search engine" (méta-moteur de recherche) which I learned about during a computer science course at university in the early 1990's and I feel not enough people know about it. Results are classified by pertinence. The search engine(s) that found it is/are indicated next to the pertinence level. It does not seem to use Google, though, so a parallel search in Google might prove useful. Google can sort your results by country or language too, after the results have been found.

I tried a bunch of search engines (yahoo, altavista, etc) before I found out Google... never looked back. Don't care really if they track my searches, much good will that do for them
