An agent runs off of each node on the network and collects network and terminal information as specified in
the Management Information Base. Agents are the entities within a system that are responsible for
measuring the performance statistic that users select by defining managed objects. In addition to measuring
performance statistics, agents also perform static thresholding and record audit trails.
