Discussion

Egon Lessa Nov 12, 2020:
Just to add more info: the speaker/writer got medical care. They payed the bill. Now they need to send their plano de saúde/convênio the receipt so they can get their money back. I don't know if that is the process in the US, but I thought this could be helpful information.
Egon Lessa Nov 12, 2020:
@Muriel Apparently, convênio médico and plano de saúde are not the same technically speaking, as you can see here: https://www.bidu.com.br/plano-de-saude/convenio-medico/

But I reckon the speaker of your question is in an informal setting, so I would say the speaker is talking about the health insurance provided by their company. In everyday life people say convênio to refer to plano de saúde and the other way around.

If my proposed translation is subpar, I will happily take it down.

(private) health insurance

"Convênio" is short for "convênio médico" which is the same as "plano de saúde". They're interchangeable.
Note from asker:
Hi Egon, I suspected as much, but I wanted to make sure because this is part of a lawsuit.
